Feeling constantly drained no matter how much sleep you get or how many tasks you tick off your list? You’re not alone — and you’re not broken. That bone-deep exhaustion you’re feeling isn’t because you’re not trying hard enough, it’s because your body is screaming for a break. In this episode, Jen dives into what’s really going on beneath the surface of your burnout. She unpacks why your to-do list isn’t the main culprit and how your nervous system, hormones, and adrenal glands are working overtime to keep you functioning. If you’re ready to stop blaming yourself and start truly understanding your fatigue, this one’s for you.
SHOW NOTES
The Real Reason You’re Exhausted (It’s Not Just Your To-Do List)
Let’s rip the bandaid off, shall we?
If you’ve been dragging yourself through the day thinking, “I’m just lazy” or “I need to try harder,” stop right there.
You’re not lazy. You’re not broken. You’re not imagining it.
You’re bloody exhausted — and not just from juggling your never-ending to-do list, work, family, emails, appointments, and figuring out what the hell to make for dinner.
There’s a deeper reason you’re knackered. And it’s not because you didn’t meditate long enough, say enough affirmations, or nail your two-hour morning routine.
It’s because your body is done with the constant go-go-go. Your nervous system is fried. Your hormones are out of whack. And your poor adrenal glands are waving the white flag.
You’re not just “busy” — you’re running on empty.

We often wear busy like a badge of honour, but busy doesn’t mean healthy or productive. Many women I work with appear to be coping on the outside but are struggling inside.
The brain fog, the bloating, the random tears, the short temper. None of that is just life. That is your body calling out for support.
Your nervous system has likely been stuck in fight-or-flight for far too long.
That wired but tired feeling. The inability to sleep even when you’re exhausted. It is not just part of getting older. It’s a sign of a dysregulated nervous system. When you live in reaction mode, your body produces too much cortisol. That might help you push through at first, but eventually, it burns you out.
Your adrenal glands take the hit. First you’re wired. Then tired. Then numb.
Your stress-response system can only keep up for so long. When it’s been under pressure day after day, it becomes depleted. That’s when you shift from a little tired to completely wiped out. No amount of coffee helps. Naps don’t fix it. You’re stuck in a loop of temporary fixes that don’t address the core issue.
You’re not just tired. You’re running on fumes.
Hormones start getting loud about it too, especially in your forties and beyond.
If you’re over 40, you’re probably noticing a change. Estrogen begins to dip. That’s normal. Cortisol starts to rise. That’s not. Insulin becomes unstable. That’s also a problem. The result? Cravings. Weight gain around your belly. Poor sleep. Mood swings. And deeper fatigue.
Your body is not broken. It is asking for a reset.
It’s not your fault. But it is your responsibility.
We live in a culture that rewards overdoing and punishes slowing down. Always being on and always doing has pushed you to the edge. But when you know better, you can choose differently.
Start by being kind to yourself. No guilt. No shame. Just decisions that serve your wellbeing.
The BAM Way Forward
• Start with rest that actually restores you. Aim for 7 to 9 hours of sleep, at least five nights a week.
• Learn what genuinely resets your nervous system. Not just what distracts you.
• Eat in a way that nourishes your hormones. Focus on consistency, not perfection.
• Move your body daily. Enough to energise you, not exhaust you.
• Set boundaries. Treat them as non-negotiable.
You don’t need to change everything. You just need to take one Bare Arse Minimum (BAM) step. One action that brings you out of stress and closer to balance.
This is not about becoming a new person. It is about reconnecting with the version of you that is already wise, strong and energised.
Jen’s Wisdom
You don’t need more hustle. You need recovery. You can’t heal while powering through.
