Beat the 3pm Energy Slump: How Food, Breathwork and Oils Can Help

It hits like clockwork.
3:00 PM.
You’re foggy, cranky, craving sugar, and eyeing that second (or third) coffee like it’s salvation.

But here’s the truth: this isn’t about willpower.
It’s your nervous system waving the white flag.

Most women I work with — especially those over 40 — hit a wall mid-afternoon. Their systems have been running all day on stress hormones, skipped meals, and not enough hydration. That 3pm crash? It’s not a personal flaw. It’s a biological burnout warning.

So, what’s the fix?

It’s not pushing through.
It’s not sugar, caffeine, or numbing out.
It’s fuelling your body in a way that works with it — not against it.

Step 1: Eat Like You Mean It

That “just a salad” lunch? Not cutting it.

Your hormones and nervous system need protein, fibre, and good fats to stay balanced.
Here’s your BAM lunch formula:

  • A palm-sized portion of protein (e.g. eggs, chicken, tofu, lentils)

  • Plenty of veg or low-GI carbs (e.g. broccoli, leafy greens, quinoa)

  • A healthy fat source (e.g. avocado, olive oil, flaxseeds, nuts)

Bonus tip: Add chromium-rich foods like broccoli, Brazil nuts, or eggs to help regulate blood sugar and insulin.
When your blood sugar is stable, your brain stays sharp and cravings stay quiet.

Step 2: Breathe + Reset

At around 2:30 PM, take a 2-minute nervous system reset:

  • Take 3 slow belly breaths (inhale for 4, exhale for 6)

  • Roll on my Energise Essential Oil Blend (Grapefruit, May Chang, Black Pepper, Ginger, Palmarosa)

  • Apply to pulse points and rub a drop between your palms

  • Inhale deeply — come back to you

Need a cheeky emotional lift? Mist my Play More Blend (Ginger, May Chang, Grapefruit, Sweet Orange) over your face or heart space. It’s especially helpful if the day’s been heavy or if the perfectionist in you needs a break.

Step 3: Snack Smart

Nope, not the vending machine. Choose snacks that actually fuel:

  • A boiled egg + almonds (protein + healthy fat + chromium)

  • A protein ball + herbal tea

  • Greek yoghurt + berries + chia seeds

Oh, and drink your water. Aim for one glass an hour.
Dehydration is often the sneaky villain behind that “fatigue” feeling.

Bonus Tip: Adaptogens for the Win

Want to go next level? Use adaptogens daily to support adrenal function — without the buzz and crash of coffee. Combine them with your Energise Blend and breathwork as your daily mid-arvo ritual.
