SHOW NOTES
As My Metabolism Slows Down After 40, How Can I Keep a Healthy Weight?
Let’s be honest—around 40, our bodies start playing by a different set of rules.
We eat the same, move the same, yet the weight slowly creeps up (usually around the midsection), and suddenly everything feels tighter, heavier, and more annoying. Sound familiar?
Our metabolism naturally slows with age, our hormones shift, and muscle mass begins to decline—unless we take action. The good news? You can maintain a healthy weight—and feel fantastic doing it. The key is working with your body, not against it.
Let’s break it down, BAM (Bare Arse Minimum) style.

7 BAM-Friendly Ways to Keep a Healthy Weight After 40
1. Prioritise Protein at Every Meal
Protein is your post-40 bestie. It supports hormone balance, helps build lean muscle (which burns more calories), and keeps you full longer.
✅ Aim for a palm-sized portion at every meal.
Eggs, tofu, lentils, chicken, Greek yoghurt—it all counts. Even mixing Greek yoghurt into mashed eggs adds 5–10g of protein. Every little bit matters. This is non-negotiable.
2. Drink More Water Than You Think You Need
Dehydration slows metabolism and mimics hunger. Water also helps flush excess oestrogen.
☕ Coffee on an empty stomach? Big no. It spikes cortisol (stress hormone), messes with blood sugar, increases belly fat, and crashes your energy.
BAM Tip: Start your day with a big glass of water. Aim for 2–3 litres a day. Always eat a little protein before your morning coffee.
3. Ditch Long Cardio—Lift Instead
Too much cardio = stress on your body.
Strength training = metabolism boost, better insulin sensitivity, and lean muscle gain.
BAM Tip: Use resistance bands or body weight at home. Strength train 2–3x a week. Start from where you are.
4. Balance Blood Sugar
Crashes and spikes = weight gain, fatigue, and cravings.
BAM Tip: Always pair carbs with protein or fat.
Swap toast for avocado and eggs. Snack on nuts instead of crackers.
5. Honour the Power of Sleep
Poor sleep messes with ghrelin and leptin—your hunger hormones—leading to carb and sugar cravings.
BAM Tip: Create a 20-minute wind-down routine. Ditch screens. Try a bath or essential oils.
Jen’s Chill Out Blend can help lower cortisol. And yes—every minute of sleep before 10pm is gold for weight regulation. Guard your bedtime like a toddler’s nap.
6. Rethink the Nightly Wine
Alcohol = empty calories, poor sleep, and sluggish metabolism. Not saying “never,” but be conscious.
BAM Tip: Go alcohol-free on weekdays.
Try Jen’s Fire Water recipe in a wine glass instead:
-
500ml apple cider vinegar
-
1 tsp each: ginger, cayenne, cinnamon, turmeric
-
½ tsp black pepper
Let it steep for a few days. Mix 1–2 tbsp with soda water for a metabolism-friendly, digestion-loving aperitif.
7. Focus on Body Support, Not Weight Loss
Weight obsession only breeds frustration. Your body is evolving—don’t punish it, support it.
BAM Tip: Shift the focus to how you feel.
Check in with your energy, mood, clothes, strength, and sleep. They’re better markers than a number on the scale.
8. Eat with Hormonal Rhythm
Your hormones love consistency. Erratic eating confuses your body.
BAM Tip: Eat within an hour of waking, and aim to finish meals 2–3 hours before bed. Your metabolism thrives on rhythm.
You don’t have to flip your life upside down. You just need to sync with the rhythm of your changing body—consistently.
Perfection? Overrated.
Consistency? That’s your game-changer.
You’re not broken—you’re evolving. And the woman you’re becoming? She’s strong, stable, resilient, and so worth showing up for.
Now is the time to rise strong. 💥
