Did you know that if toxins don’t come out through our pee and poo, they can come out through our skin? Poor assimilation and elimination don’t just disrupt your digestion – they can lead to severe skin issues, weight gain, and even increase your risk of chronic diseases. Psoriasis, dermatitis, and eczema are some of the most common skin conditions affecting millions of people worldwide. Psoriasis alone impacts about 2% of the population in the Western world, and its causes are a complex interplay of physical and emotional factors. In this episode, Jen explores the root causes of these skin conditions, how our body’s elimination processes are connected to our skin health, and practical steps you can take to support your body from the inside out.

Navigating Psoriasis Dermatitis and Eczema: Understanding Causes and Coping Strategies
Skin health is more than skin deep—if toxins aren’t eliminated through our pee or poo, they often emerge through our skin. Poor assimilation and elimination can lead to skin conditions, weight gain, and a heightened risk of chronic diseases.
Psoriasis, dermatitis, and eczema are skin conditions that impact millions worldwide. Psoriasis alone affects 2% of the Western population, triggered by physical and emotional factors. While these conditions share symptoms like redness, itching, and inflammation, each has unique causes and triggers. Understanding these distinctions and employing effective strategies can improve both physical and emotional wellbeing.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition causing rapid skin cell turnover, resulting in thick, red, and scaly patches known as plaque psoriasis. It can be triggered by stress, infections, or certain medications. Having treated many individuals, from children to adults with severe cases, I’ve seen firsthand how emotional distress exacerbates symptoms.
Dermatitis
Dermatitis, including eczema, encompasses inflammatory skin conditions caused by allergens, irritants, or sensitivities. Common types include atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis. Effective management often involves identifying and avoiding triggers such as certain foods, detergents, or skincare products.
Eczema
Eczema, a type of dermatitis, results in dry, itchy, and inflamed skin. Its development is linked to immune dysfunction and environmental factors. Managing eczema requires a combination of trigger avoidance and soothing strategies.
Relieving and Managing Skin Conditions
Living with psoriasis, dermatitis, or eczema is challenging, but relief is possible through holistic strategies:
Stress Management
Stress feeds these conditions, creating a vicious cycle. Break it with:
- Mindfulness meditation or NSDR (Non-Sleep Deep Rest).
- Herbal Support: Astragalus, licorice root, withania (ashwagandha), chamomile, and lavender tea.
- Aromatherapy:
- Chill Out Blend: Stay focused while living in the moment (Orange, Lime, Ylang Ylang).
- Serenity Blend: Create a calm environment (Frankincense, Geranium, Lavender, Ylang Ylang).
Support the Skin
- Use herbs like burdock root and turmeric for inflammation.
- Hydrate: Drink 33ml of water per kilogram of body weight daily, at room temperature.
- Balance gut health with a TriBiotic. Proper elimination ensures toxins exit through natural pathways, not the skin.
Dietary Changes
- Eat whole, plant-based foods: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans.
- Add oily fish rich in Omega-3 (e.g., salmon, sardines).
- Use high-quality Omega-3 supplements like flaxseed oil or krill oil (3 capsules, 3 times daily).
- Avoid processed foods and consider reducing gluten, alcohol, and added sugars to support gut health.
Aromatherapy Recipes for Symptom Relief
For Red and Inflamed Skin:
- 5 drops Chamomile
- 4 drops Lavender
- 4 drops Neroli
- Mix with 50g of hemp cream or a body carrier oil (e.g., Sweet Almond or Apricot Kernel).
For Dry and Scaly Skin:
- 2 drops Frankincense
- 2 drops Rose
- 2 drops Palmarosa
- 3 drops Blue Chamomile
- 3 drops Lavender
- Mix with 50ml of a carrier oil like Calendula-infused or Jojoba oil.
The Bottom Line
Skin conditions are deeply emotional imbalances. The visible symptoms of psoriasis, dermatitis, or eczema often worsen stress, perpetuating the problem. Breaking the stress loop is critical for healing. Focus on reducing triggers, managing stress, and supporting your body’s natural detoxification processes to reclaim your skin health.
For tailored aromatherapy or herbal blends, consult your naturopath or aromatherapist. You’re not alone—there is hope and help for healing.
