If wheels aren’t perfectly circular, the ride is anything but smooth. Similarly, if your ‘wheel of life’ isn’t balanced and well-rounded, navigating through life can become a real challenge. Now, you might be wondering, what exactly is this ‘Wheel of Life’? In this episode, Jen explains what the Wheel of Life is and how it enables you to identify where things are out of alignment, and what you need to work on to rebalance them.

If the wheels are not round, it becomes a super bumpy ride.
If your wheel of life is not balanced and round life can be a huge struggle
What is the wheel of life you ask?
Maybe you have felt that life had felt off-kilter lately.
Spending too much time at work, not enough for family, friends, sports etc and you have been feeling unfulfilled and unsatisfied.
I was shown the heel of life many years ago and found it invaluable
Why should we look at our wheel of life?
The bottom line is when our life moves out of balance it will directly tax your wellbeing.
The original idea behind the Wheel of Life came from Paul J. Meyer in the 1960s to help people realize their goals.
Today it is known as the Life Balance Wheel, Coaching Wheel, and the Wheel of Success
It is a super simple way to see where your priorities are and where you are out of balance.
There are generally 8-10 “spokes” to the wheel.
- Money & Finances
- Health & Fitness
- Fun & Recreation
- Partner & Love
- Personal Growth & Learning
- Work and Career
It is an easy system that you can use yourself right now.
Play along with me.
Start by drawing a circle on a sheet of paper
And let’s go with 10 spokes on the wheel, so draw 10 lines radiating out from the centre
Now write one of each of these names on each spoke
Now score each category out of 10.
10 being the outermost point on the wheel and 0 being right at the centre of the wheel and say 5 being in the middle of that line.
Take a minute to think about each category and give it a score.
Once you have done that you play connect the dots around the wheel.
If you wheel balanced or wonky
What you are seeing is areas that have room for improvement.
Nothing is wrong, the wheel simply helps to highlight where to become more balanced
- How do you feel looking at your wheel?
- What surprises you the most?
- What would a totally balanced wheel look and feel like?
- Which category would you most like to improve?
- What category would you most like to start with?
- What’s one thing you could do to improve each category by even one point?
- Could a single action improve more than one area?
- How would you feel in three months’ time when your wheel is in a more balanced shape?
So the secret is to just start. Look for the priority one and write three actions to help achieve that one.
Which of the other categories will that influence as well?
What works for you as a reminder to work this as a priority/
Set alarms on phone, diary etc?
Big reminder to focus on what you want not what is not in balance yet.
This process is to guide you, not overwhelm you.
Have fun balancing your wheel
