SHOWNOTES
Fibromyalgia is a name given to a common group of symptoms marked by generalised pain and muscle stiffness. Unlike various forms of arthritis, sufferers of fibromyalgia tend not to experience any inflammation or damage to the painful areas.
The most common symptoms of fibromyalgia are:
- Pain – which usually involves aching, stiffness and tiredness of muscles
- Extreme fatigue (tiredness)
- Poor sleep
- Problems with concentration and memory
- Irritable bowel (diarrhoea, stomach pain)
A person can have a range of the symptoms. The pain associated with them can increase temporarily with a flare-up. A flare-up can last anywhere from a few days to weeks.
Fibromyalgia can also carry loaded emotions like guilt, feelings of letting others down, grief for the loss of how you used to feel when well, being a burden.
The emotional stress also can keep the symptoms looping.
Ways to help Fibromyalgia naturally
1. Exercise Regularly: Regular exercise can help you improve your overall fitness, boost your energy levels and aid in the release of endorphins, the natural hormone responsible for your feelings of pleasure and happiness.
2. Get Enough Sleep: Fibromyalgia patients tend to have poor sleep quality because of the pain. Make sure to set a regular sleep schedule and avoid caffeine in the evenings.
3. Manage Stress: Long-term stress can take a toll on your body, making it more vulnerable to the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Practice relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, and deep breathing exercises.
4. Take adaptogens to help your body adapt to the stress of the physical and emotional pain
5. Eat a Healthy Diet: A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein, and good fats can help reduce inflammation and provide you with the nutrients your body needs to function optimally.
6. Supplement with Flaxseed oil or Fish Oil: Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, which have strong anti-inflammatory properties.
6. Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol: Caffeine and alcohol can both interfere with sleep quality, which can worsen the symptoms of fibromyalgia.
7. Consider Herbal Supplements: Herbal supplements such as turmeric and ginger.
Boswellia / Frankincense can help reduce inflammation and pain associated with it. It is one of the rare treatments that decrease elastase, an inflammatory mediator found to be elevated in those with fibromyalgia.
You could use the essential oil in a base of Argan oil, Evening Primrose oil and St Johns Wort oil then think if relieved by heat, blend in warming essential oils like the spices, if the pain is relieved by cool, use the cooling oils like spearmint, lavender, German chamomile etc
Like everything, prevention is key. You know your body, manage the flare-ups as you can and try some of the suggestions here today to help prevent the flare-up intensity and longevity
