SHOWNOTES

Time Management: Planning and managing resources and tasks effectively is an essential skill learned in the army that can be applied to civilian life. It teaches you to identify objectives, prioritize tasks, and use your resources to achieve desired outcomes in a timely manner.

Communication: Clear, concise and straight to the point. The ability to communicate effectively while working as part of a team or in leadership positions has been honed through years of military service. It involves the ability to effectively present your ideas, understand the point of view of others, and think on your feet.

Respect: Respect for oneself and others, also known as the golden Rule, has been pounded into soldiers for years. This is a critical take-away that requires a person to treat others with the same kindness that is expected to be bestowed upon them.

Adaptability: Nothing stays the same in the military, especially during combat. Adaptability is imperative in this ever-changing climate and soldiers quickly learn to assess a situation and develop solutions that will enable them to adapt to it.

Resilience: Life in the army prepares soldiers to be resilient in even the most difficult and unpredictable situations. The ability to cope with difficult circumstances while managing stress requires self-awareness,

  1. Take a deep breath and try to relax.
  2. Remind yourself that it’s OK to not have all the answers.
  3. Have great fore sight
  4. Break the situation down into smaller parts.
  5. Talk to someone who can offer advice and a different perspective.
  6. Ask yourself what the worst-case scenario could be, and then consider how you would cope if it happened.
  7. Develop an action plan by writing down key steps to take.
  8. Remain flexible and open-minded about the outcome.
  9. Implement your plan, learning something along the way.
  10. Reflect on the experience and ask yourself how it could have been handled differently.
