SHOWNOTES

Ridges on nails can be a sign of a deficiency in iron, however, we say it is because you are not digesting protein properly from low digestive enzymes.

Solution – increase kiwi fruit in the diet and maybe take Betaine HCl enzyme for three months ( a blood cycle) to bring long term change

Brittle and fragile nails can be a sign of low good fats in the diet.

Solution – supplement with Omega 3 EFA and balance out the saturated fats in the diet, also increase Water intake to 33ml of water per kilo of weight per day

Mostly white with darker rims, this can indicate liver problems, such as hepatitis.

General yellowing may indicate but you would see it in skin colour too.

Yellowing can also be fungal infection

Some people with diabetes, the nails take on a yellowish hue.

This can be the breakdown of sugar and its effect on the collagen in nails.

This yellowing isn’t harmful. It doesn’t need to be treated

White spots low zinc

Include more of the following in your diet:

  • Zinc rich foods
  • Meat
  • Seafoods
  • Seeds – pumpkin seeds are best
  • Legumes – chickpeas and lentils
  • Nuts – like pine nuts, cashews, and almonds
  • Dairy – cheese and milk
  • Eggs – one large egg can be nearly 7% of the Daily need of zinc plus 6 gm of protein and 5 grams of good fats and lots more
  • Dark chocolate – 100gm bar of 80% – 3.3mg zinc that’s 42% of DV for women BUT 24 grams of sugar and 598 calories – so make sure unsweetened

The bottom line is – eat a varied diet with good sources of zinc, like meat, seafood, legumes, seeds, nuts, and dairy.
