SHOWNOTES
Ever catch yourself saying, “I really wish I could just focus!” Perhaps you keep daydreaming or scrolling mindlessly?
What I know is that all obstacles and distractions are equal. It’s all the same. Whether you’re scrolling social media, getting distracted by the kids, daydreaming, or finding another distraction to procrastinate around – it doesn’t matter; it’s taken your mind away.
Some people try to analyse their day to find out what is taking up their time, but the truth is it doesn’t matter. You need to bring your mind back to the present to move forward in focus.
Why do we lose focus?
Some people can experience a lack of focus due to a medical condition or medication, but in this episode, I’m talking about a lack of focus for other reasons.
These reasons can include:
- Dehydration – are you dehydrated? Dehydration feeds fatigue
- Habits – are you procrastinating out of habit?
- Multitasking – are you trying to do too much at once?
- Boredom – are you bored and looking for a distraction?
- Notifications – are notifications pulling you away from what you’re doing?
Stop multitasking!
Multitasking doesn’t work. By trying to multitask, we’ve trained our minds to be unfocused. Now we need to undo this by focusing on one task at a time. The good news is that your ability to focus is like a mental muscle that can be trained.
Nine habits to improve your ability to focus
- Set alarms
- Reduce multitasking
- Brain dump to lists
- Manage your stress
- Defrag your mind – take a walk in nature
- Channel the energy
- Become the queen/king of sleep
- Meditate – your breath keeps you present
- Drink water
