SHOWNOTES
Have you ever had someone come over, and as they leave, they say how great they feel after speaking with you, yet you are totally drained? I call them energy suckers.
When I was a new naturopath, I cared deeply and didn’t know how to protect my energy. I learned that energy suckers can often be the nicest of people with the best of intentions. They learned how to deal with life from their environment, and most are completely unaware of what they are doing.
Strategies for protecting your energy.
The truth is we are responsible for how we respond to energy suckers. These are the strategies that I have used to protect my energy over the year.
- Cut them out of your life (if you can)
- Set boundaries
- I would get on a call and say I have this much time; how can I help you today?
- Start earlier than later
- Be consistent
- Know the difference between “venting” and “dumping.” Everybody needs to voice frustration now and again
- Do NOT overreact. Don’t feed the monster
- Use aromatherapy (Sandalwood and Frankincense)
Remember, we are responsible for how we let others treat us. It’s not all about them – it’s about us allowing it to happen too. Learning to have boundaries is huge and worth it.
Healthy Life Hacks
