Do you turn on your happy hormones? What are the happy hormones, you might ask? They are Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins. Today, I will share the conscious actions I take to turn on my happy hormones every day.
Dopamine – The Reward Chemical
Dopamine comes when we complete a task. When you tick something off your to-do list, you get a hit of Dopamine. You don’t need to wait for something big and exciting to happen; celebrating the small achievements, you make every day can really help keep you in that happy corridor.
How to turn on your Dopamine:
- Completing a task
- Doing self-care
- Eating good food
- Celebrating little wins
Oxytocin – The Love Hormone
Oxytocin comes when with touch and the feeling of being loved. It’s a feeling like everything is good with the world.
How to get an Oxytocin hit:
- Play with your pet
- Play with the kids
- Hold hands with your partner
- Give compliments
- Hug someone
Serotonin – The Mood Stabiliser
Serotonin comes when we’re focused and completely absorbed in one thing – when we are present with the world.
How to turn on your Serotonin:
- Meditating
- Running
- Surfing
- Sun Exposure
- Walk in nature
- Swimming
- Outside exercise
Endorphins – The Pain Killer
Endorphins are our natural pain killers in life. One of the best ways to manage pain is by laughing – it helps your body on so many levels.
How to turn on your Endorphins:
- Laughing
- Essential Oils
- Watching a comedy
- Eating dark chocolate
- Exercising
