Every day our self-talk affirms the beliefs we have about ourselves – good or bad. That’s what makes affirmations so powerful; they allow us to take control of our thoughts and become more mindful of the words and stories we tell ourselves. In this episode, Jen shares how to craft powerful affirmations and use your language to serve and not sabotage.

SHOWNOTES
An affirmation is a written or oral statement that confirms something is true. This is why “I am” are the two of the most powerful words in the English language.
Saying affirmations out loud has been proven to be more effective than just simply thinking about them or saying them in your head. Saying them out loud creates a powerful emotion and energy that affirms the words in both your mind and body. Writing them down and reading them out loud takes them to the next level.
But if you want to amp up your affirmations even further – say them in the second person. Going from “I am” to “you are” allows the different parts of your self-awareness to get activated and it shifts your perspective.
First-person vs second-person affirmations
First-person affirmations look like this:
· “I am …”
· “I am a radical success.”
· “I am super confident.”
Second-person affirmations look like this:
· “You are…”
· “You are a radical success.”
· “You are super confident.”
How to craft powerful affirmations
- Use the present tense
- State it in the positive
- Keep it brief
- Make it specific
- Add an action word ending with –ing
- Add at least one dynamic emotion or feeling word
What you think about you bring about
Whether you realise it or not, you are using affirmations in your daily language.
These are things like:
- “Everything I eat goes straight to my hips.”
- “I am never going to meet somebody I can love.”
- “I never catch a break.”
- “No matter what I do, I never seem to get ahead.”
What good or bad beliefs are you affirming about yourself daily?
Affirmations need action
Now, don’t get me wrong; affirmations alone won’t ensure success. You still need to take action. If your affirmation is “I am earning $1m a year”, you need to live into that by taking the steps that a person earning $1m a year would take each day. You need to be that vibe.
But affirmations are essential because our thoughts create our feelings, which create our actions, which create our results. When we change our thoughts with affirmations, we live into a different result.
Start using affirmations
- Start with 3- 5 minutes, even once a day
- Try saying affirmations upon waking up and getting into bed
- Repeat each affirmation about ten times
- Ask a trusted loved one to help
- Make your routine consistent
- Be patient
