SHOWNOTES
What are you striving for – a reasonable life or an extraordinary life?
Let’s look at the definitions of each:
- A reasonable life is said to be having sound judgement; fair and sensible as much as is appropriate or fair; moderate.
- An extraordinary life is remarkable, amazing, astonishing and astounding.
Which one sounds more appealing to you? Fair and sensible or remarkable and astounding? For me, I choose extraordinary.
What I’ve learned in my life of nearly 60 years is that when I have lived a reasonable life, I have all of the reasons and excuses that will keep me comfortable. It’s a good life; it works.
But imagine if you could live that little bit outside your comfort zone to live an extraordinary life full of juicy adventures.
So often, the difference between living an extraordinary life over living a reasonable life is just a matter of saying yes more (before you are ready) and then working it out as you live into that yes. It’s stretching that little step, that 1% outside of your comfort zone.
A reasonable life is good, but if you’ve lost that spark or you just want more, than it’s that extra 1% you need to do. And just to put that in perspective, 1% of your day is 15 minutes.
- In exercising, it’s one more rep.
- In surfing, it’s staying for one more wave.
- In sleep, it’s going to bed 15 minutes earlier.
I have a tattoo that reminds me to do that little bit extra. That extra 1% in life that others won’t do.
Many people tell me that I’m lucky to live the life I live. But I’m not lucky. I consciously chose to leave my reasonable life to have an extraordinary life and do that extra 1% in most of the things I do.
What extra 1% can you do in your day that will lead you to an extraordinary life?
Healthy Life Hacks
So, the healthy life hacks I want to leave you with today are:
- Look for things where you can do that extra 1% – that extra 15 minutes or saying “YES” more.
- Set a reminder to live an extraordinary life – if you choose it. For me it’s a tattoo, for you it could be your phone, calendar or to-do list.
