SHOWNOTES
Many people ask me, Jen, how do you have such clear skin? So, I want to share the 7 steps to great skin. As there is a lot to cover, I’m going to break this up over two podcasts.
What are the 7 steps to great skin?
- Protection
- Eliminate
- Renew Cells
- Feed your Skin
- Essential Oils
- Change Constantly
- Toxins to Avoid
Step 1 – Protect
Question 1: What happens when you cut an apple?
Answer: It goes brown.
This is the result of oxidisation or free radical damage.
Question 2: How do you help prevent the apple from going brown?
Answer: You protect it from free radical damage with lemon juice.
Reduce free radical impact
- PH balanced cleanser
- Use cold-pressed vegetable oils as a moisturiser
- Green Tea – drink and atomise episode 11
- Supplement with antioxidants “ACE”
- Check back of arms (hyperkeratosis)
- Eat plenty of fruit, veggies and fresh food
- Avoid the sun between 10am and 2pm
- Shower aromatically, once a day
The Acid Mantle
The pH scale measures how acid or alkaline something is. It goes from 1-14 with Acid being 1 and Alkaline being 14. Health skin sits around 5.6 – 6.5.
Why is it important?
- It keeps bacteria bugs out
- A healthy acid mantle protects from oxidation
- Protection of acid mantle = cheapest antioxidant
Vitamin A rich foods
- Kiwi fruit
- Guava
- Grapefruit
- Mango
- cantaloupe
- dried apricots
- milk
- egg yolks
Vitamin C rich foods
- Acerola

- Guava
- Grapefruit
- Mango
- Papaya
- Plums

- Strawberry
- Melon
Vitamin E rich foods
- Sunflower seeds raw
- Almonds raw
- Olives
- Papaya
- Dark green veggies like spinach and Silverbeet
- Blueberries
Step 2 – Elimination
Healthy skin needs healthy cells.
What makes a cell healthy?
- Oxygen
- Nutrients & Water
- Elimination of their Wastes
How do we eliminate wastes?
Elimination is one of the secrets to great skin and longevity.
- Skin: 1/3 of the body’s toxins are eliminated through the skin
- Lungs: During respiration, when we breathe out, we eliminate toxins
- Bowels: Left-overs from digestions process is eliminated right to the end
- Kidneys: Urine is produced by your kidneys filtering your blood
Skin is the most vulnerable part of your body – check out Episode #12 on pimples and Episode #2 on water. Your skin operates like a 3rd kidney.
How to maximise your third kidney
- Steam baths
- Saunas
- Hot houses
- Detoxifying aroma bath
- Skin brushing (check out Episode #26 on the lazy lymphatic system)
- Cleansing herbs like Burdock Root, the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of the root can help resolve skin issues (check out the link below for the herbs that I use)
Step 3 – Renewing your skin cells
Imagine your skin is like a brick wall.
- The bricks are like your skin cells
- The body makes skin cement from essential fatty acids
- The cement holds the bricks together
- Like a brick wall, the better the cement holds the bricks together, the stronger the wall.
- Remove too much cement, and you weaken the wall
- Chemical peeps act like a jackhammer on the skin cement weakening the integrity of your skin
So, what should you do – or not do?
- Don’t use chemical peels
- Do weekly pawpaw, kiwi or pineapple face exfoliation (the enzymes will act as a natural exfoliator)
Be sure to tune in for part 2 when I cover the next four steps to great skin.
