SHOWNOTES
I’m curious, what do you read most, fiction or non-fiction books?
For me, I swear I’ve read non-fiction for most of my life. I’ve never really been into fiction books. I’ve really had a hunger to learn things. I love learning about others, so I’ve been really big on autobiographies. I have read so many amazing stories. Then the self-help genre came in and I was like – oh my goodness, I can learn so much about life!
About three years ago when I did a Marianne Williamson’s women’s retreat in Los Angeles, I made a correction. This was a workshop that was all about bringing forth your feminine energy across your work life, relationships and what we bring to the world.
Marianne Williamson really dove into what the differences between masculine and feminine energy. I’ve been driven by masculine energy for most of my life and I really only understood the difference between masculine and feminine energy at Marianne’s workshop.
Masculine energy is the ‘doing’ energy. It is about do, do, do and achieve, achieve, achieve. It is a driven, go-fast state. Feminine energy, however, is all about ‘being’, it is a creative and nurturing state, and you can achieve so much more in this state of being. You still have to do – but it’s a matter of bringing balance of both.
Having been in that driven masculine energy for most of my life, I’ve been out of balance. While I was in it, it was great and I did achieve, but being out of balance was all part of me burning out.
The biggest change I made to help restore the balance, and now this might challenge some of you guys as well, I know it challenged me, but I’ve enjoyed it, is to read fiction.
Maryanne challenged us to read fiction – but not just reading them either, listening to audio books. I was like “No! I don’t want to read or listen to fiction!” But, as I’ve shared, I live by the rule that if it is hard to do it, it’s all the more reason to do it.
Now, when I say feminine energy it’s not meaning femininity, girlie or being female, it is a shift in energy state and bringing balance to your life.
How to raise your female energy
- Start listening to audio fiction books
- Slow down and tune in
- Practice self-care
- Be creative (I struggled to find my creative outlets for years, but have found writing and gardening brings out my creativity)
- Read fiction and let yourself get lost in it
- Balance your ‘doing’ with ‘being’
Healthy Life Hacks
So, the healthy life hacks I want to leave you with today are:
- Start reading, preferably listening to fiction books and get lost in them
- Notice when you’re in ‘doing’ mode and stop breathe and tune in
- Do self-care, do something daily that nurtures your spirit – 1% of your day is 15 mins
