It can be so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life that we forget to go out and live it. Just think about it, when was the last time you got excited about your plans for the day or even the week ahead? Can you remember the last time you planned something adventurous, challenging or exciting?

There was a time where my answer was no. I was so work focused and career driven it almost drove me into the ground. But one day, thankfully, I woke up and realised how much of life I was missing out on. I don’t want you to have to get to that same point before you too realise that life is there to be lived.

So in case you need a little help to reconnect with your fun and adventurous side and get your blood pumping for all the right reasons, here are five tips to help you reconnect with your adventurous self.

1. Get out of your comfort zone

The first step in being adventurous is to push yourself beyond the limits of your comfort zone. Do something exciting and get your adrenaline pumping to change your physical and mental state.

For some it might be bungy jumping or parachuting, for others it might be going on a roller coaster or public speaking. Our definitions of adventure can be very different so make sure you do what is adventurous for you. Start small, but as your comfort zone expands make sure you keep pushing the boundaries.

2. Write a Bucket List

Write a list of all of the activities you want to try, experiences you want to have, people you want to meet and places you want to visit and stick it somewhere prominent like on your fridge. Every day as you walk past it, take some kind of action towards one. Once you tick one off, you’ll find you are more motivated to tick more off.

3. Learn a new skill

You don’t have to jump out of a plane to be adventurous, learning a new skill can often give you a high level of thrill and excitement. You may like to consider activities such as martial arts, Latin dancing or even learning an instrument.

Right now I’m learning how to play the drums. Thanks to technology though you don’t even need an instrument before you start learning, you can do it virtually using a free phone app. So go on, use the other side of your brain, its loads of fun to learn.

4. Join an Adventure Club

There are different clubs you can join so you can share the experiences with others and have support at the same time. For some it might be

Love 4-Wheel-Driving, rock or mountain climbing, abseiling, sky diving, White River rafting, canoeing, scuba diving or another activity? Join a club! There are loads of clubs around for all different ages and physical fitness levels and you’ll get to meet new people who you have something in common with (which for some is adventurous in in itself!). Do a quick online search for groups in your area and interest and go along!

5. Travel

Adventure doesn’t always have to be highly energetic sometimes experiencing another way of life is exciting enough. Take a short sea or tree change, or travel to another country. Embrace a new culture – its language, food and people. Explore the sights and learn different customs.  Even just go for a drive on the weekend with no destination in mind. Allow yourself to follow your heart and intuition and see what adventure you end up on.

So today bite the bullet and do something adventurous. But most of all have fun, that’s what it’s all about in the end anyway!
